Archive Coffee - Bali, Indonesia
Meet Archive Coffee in Bali, Indonesia.
One of the direct translations of "Archive" is a place to store items in an archive. This concept is evident as you meander through the concrete and bamboo structures leading up to the coffee shop, almost as if it has been “archived” for safekeeping. If you were to ask me on the spot to describe the interior and feel of this coffee spot, I would say a melody of Indonesian bamboo and Nordic charm, which is something quite unique on the island. As a lover of Nordic design and Balinese hospitality I was genuinely pleased with my findings.
What can you expect when visiting Archive Coffee Bali?
Walking in, one is greeted by staff at the front entrance. True to Balinese hospitality, it is warm and friendly but unpretentious nor suffocating. Having worked in the hospitality, tourism and travel fields most of my life, I can confidently say that Archive is doing something right; that a lot of cafes are getting wrong these days. Archive is not trying to follow each and every trend that pops up, they are not trying to cram every soul into their space, they haven’t lost their vision - they have retained it. It is all beautifully and thoughtfully laid out, in the calmest manner. This is truly a blessing in a place as bustling as Bali. Stone floors, wooden furnishings, grass accents, and sofas that speak comfort, style and calm; with a variety of drinks that will have you coming back for more.
With a range of seating options to choose from, like full tables and chairs to sofas and stools, visiting with friends or family, or simply taking a break to read or work is effortlessly easy. We often find ourselves sitting in Archive, sipping on Matcha, Iced Ginger Tea or Coffee while our fingers tap away at the keyboards. A cool breeze flows, laughter from another table gently drifts through the space, the smell of coffee brewing helps to create a little bubble in which you can sneak away from the hustle and bustle of the island.
I believe that the peace, calm and lightness that Archive has managed to achieve is simply because they have remembered their foundation, the core of who and what they are. To be a coffee shop, for people to come and have coffee. Hang out with friends, a place to step away from office or home. To not feel rushed or outpaced by the environment they are sitting in. Very rarely do we visit a cafe or coffee shop in 2025 and actually calm down, let go, relax, breathe, find our creativity again. It is truly a beautiful thing to bare witness too. While I know that things can change in the future, I am ever so pleased to have discovered this beautiful oasis in the middle of the collective busy and currently overwhelming world we are all currently a part of.
If you're headed to the island of the gods and are in search of a good cup of coffee, I highly recommend stopping by Archive Coffee.
